Celebrating and honoring past Freedom Fighters is just a fraction of the rich history of Black August. “It’s a time to study and practice education and outreach about our history and the current conditions of our people.” Those honored have died and/or have been imprisoned fighting for freedom, their rights, and God-given liberties.

It saddens me to hear about the pain our brothers and sisters had to go through while we take some (if not most) of our own “freedom and liberties” for granted. It also inspires me to live better, consciously choosing to liberate myself…free my mind. Words are not enough to express their fearlessness and fortitude. I pray that I’m able to be just as courageous in my own life.
